Consumer Debt Consolidation

by Terry Greene

Everyday in America consumers suffering from past financial hardships and debt problems are mislead by those non-profit debt consolidation agencies. Not only can these so called ‘debt management plans’ worsen credit profiles more but they have a failure rate of over 70% which means that the majority of consumers that sign up either file bankruptcy or drop off the plans within 6 months. Also, most lenders now classify those DMPs as a chapter 13 bankruptcy anyways. What many consumers do not realize is that these debt consolidation agencies are doing nothing but acting as a collection agency for creditors and getting a financial ‘kickback’ for every payment sent to them!  The only real solution to resolving debt problems outside of a bankruptcy is a ’Proper & Effective Self-Help Plan’ that will work for each and every consumer that is willing to put their best foot forward and be successful.  It is very important that consumers seek the help of a certified credit consultant that understands the entire credit and debt resolution process that truly provides consumers with financial success and peace of mind.  Having the right strategy based on the consumers’ financial and credit profile and implementing an effective action plan anyone can resolve their debts with much less headache and frustration not to mention an education on personal financial issues.

Credit repair myths

Many people hire ‘credit repair agencies’ every day without knowing what they actually do for them. The truth is anyone can start a ‘credit repair’ business without any credentials or certifications in the credit industry because the only service that is provided is issuing massive dispute letters to the credit reporting agencies each month. Not only can consumers do this themselves both electronically and through the mail, but disputing accounts without proper documentation is a ‘hit or miss’ situation. Many times disputing derogatory accounts will damage a credit profile and scores by reactivating the accounts reporting date which will invite collection activity by the creditor or collection agency. Consumers need to understand that there is should always be a strategy when disputing information on credit reports as well as rehabilitating or enhancing one’s credit profile. The majority of consumers suffering from personal credit issues have experienced past financial hardhips that was the cause of their credit problems. So the focus needs to be on resolving bad debt and properly managing good debt through maintaining positive monthly activity on 3-5 open lines of credit each month. A good message to all consumers….’Financial discipline weighs ounces but financial consequenes weigh tons’.
